The worldwide Covid-19 crisis did not allow us to meet in the usual way in Singapore in 2020. Meanwhile our industry needed to come together to find answers and solutions for the problems that the pandemic had brought us. Over the course of three days we discussed with highly respected subject matter experts, several current issues for pilot, cabin and maintenance training.

IATA represented by the Regional Director, Mr. Blair Cowles, opened the conference with an overview of the situation of the airlines at this point. He looked at the projections of the recovery over the years, and the impact this has, and will have, on the different groups of crewmembers.
Session 1 – In this session, the panel discussed the impact of the crisis on pilot training, but more importantly, how the industry looks at the future. We have the view of the leading manufacturer, the biggest ATO, and one of the largest airlines in the region. They brought three different angles on the same issue.

Session 2 – The crisis has hit all sectors hard, the airlines very hard, and the financial and human toll is heavy. The ab initio students are one of those groups that will suffer, but in the long run, things might look good. Training departments will have to do more with less because finances will be tight. And finally, there is the Human Factor: how do crewmembers cope with the loss of their job? How do they keep their motivation when thousands of pilots are unemployed? Our panel of three specialists will discuss all this in their fields of ab initio, finance, and human factors.

Session 1 – With the restart of operations, Cabin Crew are put in direct contact with a high number of people, and thus the potential spreading of the virus. This session will focus on the issues of fear, safety, and emergeny procedures and the impact of the PPE equipment on the job of the Cabin Crew.
